Standing Seam Metal Roofing
Standing seam is a concealed-fastener metal system. The fasteners attach through clips or flanges hidden under the seam, so nothing that holds the roof down is exposed to weather on the surface.

What this material is
Standing seam roofs are formed from coils of coated steel or aluminum. Panels run from eave to ridge, and the vertical legs of adjacent panels are joined by a raised seam that is either snapped together or mechanically folded. Panel width, metal gauge, seam height, and finish are all part of the selected system.
Properties and applications it may suit
- Homes and buildings where a clean, modern roofline with no visible fasteners is the goal
- Roof planes with simple, continuous runs from eave to ridge
- Properties where the owner wants a metal roof with no exposed gaskets to monitor
- Structures where the roof pitch and framing suit a metal system, which we verify on site
Appearance and customization
- Straight vertical seam lines with no fastener heads visible in the field
- Panel width and seam height change how bold the lines read from the street
- Finish options vary by the supplier and system selected for your project
- Trims, ridge, and eave details are formed to match the panel finish
Installation considerations
- Panels expand and contract with temperature, so clip type and attachment method are chosen for the system rather than improvised
- Panels are cut to length for the roof, so accurate measurement matters before anything is ordered
- Penetrations, valleys, and roof-to-wall transitions are detailed differently than on an exposed-fastener roof
- Whether standing seam suits your roof depends on pitch, deck, framing, and the panel profile selected; we confirm this during the inspection
Maintenance considerations
- Keep gutters, valleys, and seam lines clear of leaf debris
- Avoid walking on the panels; ask us to inspect rather than going up yourself
- Have penetrations and sealed details looked at periodically, since those are the usual attention points
- Report any panel that has been struck, dented, or lifted after a storm
Common questions
- What is the real difference between standing seam and an exposed-fastener panel?
- On an exposed-fastener roof, screws pass through the face of the panel and are sealed with a gasket you can see. On standing seam, the attachment is hidden beneath the seam. That changes cost, installation method, and what needs checking over time.
- Is standing seam suitable for any roof?
- No. Pitch, deck condition, framing, panel profile, and the layout of the roof all affect whether it is a good fit. We look at the roof before recommending a system.
- Can I see a metal roof on my home in the visualizer?
- Not yet. The roof visualizer currently supports asphalt shingle product lines only. For metal, we will walk you through samples and profiles in person.
